Class Information

Enter the field of phlebotomy with this comprehensive 130-hour program, designed to prepare professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis. Engage in classroom and lab work sessions covering terminology, anatomy, physiology, and blood collection procedures. Through hands-on specimen practice and expert guidance, perfect the techniques of puncture methods. Students will graduate with 65 successful venipunctures.

It is best to register at least one week before class begins.

Prerequisites

You must be at least 18 years of age.

Regular access to a Windows-based laptop and high-speed internet to complete the course is required (Chromebooks and cell phones are NOT compatible with the online portion of this course).

Location

This is a hybrid course. You will meet in person three times a week at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, ID, to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. The theory component is completed online in the Canvas classroom.

Class Notes

  • Included in Tuition
    • Textbook, online study program, supplies, National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam fee.
  • Appropriate attire for the first day of class is scrubs or comfortable, smart-casual wear.
    • Gray scrubs (no specific hue) are required to be worn for the lab/class by the fourth week.
      • You can purchase your scrubs anywhere as long as they are gray; some suggestions are Amazon or Walmart.
  • Venipuncture practice on students will be expected due to the nature of this class. However, don't worry; there will be plenty of simulation practice prior. Additional details will be discussed in class.
    • Please be prepared to perform blood draws on other students and yourself.
    • You will be expected to bring adult volunteers to class to practice blood draws on scheduled days.
  • You will complete coursework outside of class and meet in the lab for in-depth exploration of material, applying real-world scenarios, engaging in critical thinking activities, and practicing competency skills.
    • Plan 4 hours per week to complete outside coursework.
