Class Information
Advance your career! Patient Care Technicians possess a diverse range of skills and knowledge to provide care to patients in hospital emergency departments, clinics, long-term acute care, and rehabilitation centers. Build upon your technical and interpersonal skills. This program includes embedded micro-certifications for Phlebotomy for Health Care Professionals, EKG, and Wound Care for Health Care Professionals. Registration fee includes the fee to sit for the national Certified Patient Care Technician examination upon successful completion of the course.
Prerequisites
Certification Requirements:
- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant or an Emergency Medical Technician.
- Provide proof of certification, examples:
- CNA: Submit a certificate from the Idaho Nurses Registry
- EMT: Submit proof of registry from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)

Unique Email Address
- Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
Computer and Internet Access
- Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet is required.
Age Requirement
- Must be 18 years old or older.
Location
Hybrid Course: You will meet in person twice a week at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, ID to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. Additional coursework is completed online in the Canvas classroom.
Class Information

- micro-certifications for Mental Health First Aid, Phlebotomy for Health Care Professionals, EKG, and Wound Care for Health Care Professionals
- national Certified Patient Care Technician Exam upon successful completion of the course
Attendance Requirement
- 100% attendance is mandatory to obtain the required skills necessary to safely practice and receive your certificate.
Dress Code
- Professional casual dress or scrubs is recommended in the lab.
- Long hair pulled back, and natural short nails are required.
Venipuncture
- Due to the nature of this class, please understand that venipuncture practice on students will be expected. Don’t worry; there will be plenty of simulation practice prior.
