Class Information ACA Swiftwater Rescue
In this two-day American Canoe Association (ACA) Swiftwater Rescue course, you will learn to identify and avoid river hazards, perform self-rescue, and assist distressed paddlers. The course emphasizes personal safety and basic skills, with training in handling higher-risk scenarios such as strainers and entrapments. You will practice individual and team-based skills through scenarios, with skills assessments included throughout the course. An assessment certificate is available for ACA members. The course is open to all whitewater enthusiasts.
Prerequisites
- Age Requirement: You must be 18 or older.
Location
- In-Person: Meet at the Outdoor Center, located on the south side of McLain Hall on the Coeur d'Alene campus.
Class Notes
- What to Bring: Prepare for Idaho weather and bring snacks, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a raincoat, and a bathing suit or other comfortable clothing.
- Equipment Provided: All equipment used in class activities is provided.
- Weather Policy: Outdoor Pursuits clinics are weather dependent. Instructors will do their best to reschedule sessions cancelled due to poor weather, but rescheduling is not guaranteed.
- Private Lessons: Outdoor Pursuits can often schedule private lessons in sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, or other adventures.
