CNAClass Information

Start your healthcare career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). This course prepares you to enter the workforce and take the state exams required for placement on the Idaho Nurse Aide Registry. The registry can be transferred to other states. This 152-hour program includes online coursework, hands-on skills training, and clinical experience at local healthcare facilities.

Prerequisites

  • Unique email address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
  • Computer and internet access: Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet is required.
  • Age requirement: Must be 16 or older.

Location

Hybrid course: You will meet in person once a week at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, ID to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. Additional coursework is completed online in the Canvas classroom.

Clinical Preparation

Apply your new skills by performing direct patient care with a CNA preceptor in a local clinical facility.

Health screen documentation is required for the clinical experience, additional information will be provided in class.

  • TB skin test: 2-step TB skin test within the last 12 months.
  • Influenza vaccination or declination: Required if your educational experience is from October 1 through April 1.

You will have access to free TB testing and influenza vaccinations. Information will be provided in class.

  • Some clinical sites may require a COVID vaccination, exemption, or declination.

Students will explore clinical site options with their instructor during class.

Attendance requirement

  • 100% attendance is required.

Registration includes

  • Instruction, textbook, online study program, and clinical experience.
  • Idaho State CNA skills and written exam fees, one attempt each.

Dress code, CNA in Post Falls

  • Scrubs: Dark gray scrub top and teal scrub bottoms, required by the third lab.
  • Shoes: Closed-toed shoes.
  • Watch: An analog watch that tracks seconds is strongly recommended. Smart devices are not allowed during testing.
Supplies to bring:
  • Black or blue pen.
  • 3-ring binder.
  • Notebook for taking notes.

Additional information

  • Pre-employment screenings: Many employers conduct criminal history, drug screen, driving record, and credit checks. A preliminary criminal history check is conducted by the school; some offenses may disqualify you from class enrollment. Verify your employability in your preferred occupation.
  • Advance registration: CNA classes regularly fill; early registration is recommended.
