Class Information Kayak Rescue Skill Clinic

Ever wonder what you would do if your kayak tipped over in open water? You will spend a morning on the lake learning and practicing useful kayak rescue skills including self-rescue techniques for capsized boats, Companion t-rescue, and a kayak roll demo. These skills are essential if you want to get away from the shore and get the most out of your recreational and touring-style kayak. You will also benefit greatly from this clinic if you are a beginning whitewater kayaker working toward mastering the roll. You are welcome to bring your own kayak (whitewater or sea) or use one of ours.

Prerequisites

  • Required Experience: You must have some previous paddling experience.
  • Age Requirement: Students must be 16 or older.

Location

  • NIC Beach: Meet at the NIC Beach. From the NIC Lee-Kildow Hall parking lot, cross Rosenberry Drive and take the stairs to the beach. All other classes meet in the Outdoor Center located on the south side of McLain Hall.

Class Notes

  • What to Bring: Be prepared for Idaho weather. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, raincoat, and bathing suit for comfort.
  • Equipment Provided: Participants are welcome to bring their own kayak (whitewater or sea) or use one of ours.
