Class Information Lake Kayaking
Have you seen kayakers on Lake Coeur d'Alene and wished you could be a part of the fun? Here's your chance to gain hands-on experience and confidence with a variety of boats. Each session will build upon the previous one and will consist of an overview of techniques with your instructor and a paddle tour of Lake Coeur d'Alene. We will cover types of kayaks, basic paddle strokes, and introduce you to self-rescues. Class content is designed for the beginner. Fee includes use of all equipment.
Prerequisites
- Swimming Skills: Swimming ability is required.
- Age Requirement: Students must be 18 years of age or older.
Location
- NIC Beach: Meet at the NIC Beach. From the NIC Lee-Kildow Hall parking lot, cross Rosenberry Drive and take the stairs to the beach.
Schedule
- Meets for two sessions.
- Session Structure: Each session builds upon the previous and includes instruction plus a paddle tour.
- Private Lessons: Outdoor Pursuits may be able to schedule private lessons in kayaking, sailing, rock climbing, or other outdoor activities. For details, call (208) 769-7809 or email terry.brinton@nic.edu.
Class Notes
- What to Bring: Be prepared for Idaho weather. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, raincoat, and bathing suit for comfort.
- Equipment Provided: All equipment used in class activities is provided unless otherwise stated.
- Weather Expectations: Outdoor Pursuits clinics are weather dependent. Instructors will try to reschedule sessions cancelled due to poor weather, but completion of all sessions is not guaranteed.
