Class Information: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Begin your healthcare career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). This course prepares you to enter the workforce and take the state exams required to be placed on the Idaho Nurse Aide Registry. The registry is transferrable to other states. This 152-hour class includes online assignments, in-class skills practice, and clinical experience at local health care facilities.
Prerequisites
- Unique Email Address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
- Computer and Internet Access: Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet is required.
- Age Requirement: Must be 16 years old or older.
Location
Hybrid Course: You will meet in person twice a week at St. Maries High School in St. Maries, ID to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. Additional coursework is completed online in the Canvas classroom.
Clinical Preparation
Apply your new skills by performing direct patient care with a CNA preceptor in a local clinical facility. Clinical dates and times may vary from your regularly scheduled class days.
Health Screen Documentation required for clinical experience (details provided in class):
- TB Skin Test*: 2-Step TB skin test within the last 12 months.
- Influenza Vaccination*: Required if your educational experience is from October 1 through April 1
- *Information will be provided in class. Some clinical sites may require additional vaccinations. Exemptions and declinations may be available upon request.
Students will explore clinical site options with their instructor during class.

Attendance Requirement
- 100% attendance is required.
Registration Includes
- Instruction, textbook, online study program, and clinical experience
- Idaho State CNA Skills and Written Exam fees (one attempt each)
Dress Code – CNA in St. Maries
- Scrubs: Dark gray scrub top and teal scrub bottoms (required by the third lab)
- Shoes: Closed-toed shoes
- Watch: An analog watch that can track seconds is strongly recommended. No smart devices are allowed during testing.

Additional Information
- Pre-employment Screenings: Many employers perform pre-employment screenings such as criminal history, drug screen, driving record, and credit checks. A preliminary criminal history check is conducted by the school, and some offenses may disqualify you from class enrollment. Verify your employability in your preferred occupation.
