Class Information

Start your healthcare career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)! This course equips you with the skills needed to enter the workforce and pass the state exams required for placement on the Idaho Nurse Aide Registry, which can be transferred to other states. The 152-hour program includes online coursework, hands-on skills training, and clinical experience at local healthcare facilities. Additional costs include vaccinations and scrubs.

Prerequisites

  • Unique Email Address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
  • Computer and Internet Access: Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet is required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be 16 years old or older.

Location

Hybrid Course: You will meet in person two evenings a week and scheduled Fridays at the Fry Healthcare Education Center in Bonners Ferry, ID to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. Additional coursework is completed online in the Canvas classroom.

Clinical Preparation

Apply your new skills by performing direct patient care with a CNA preceptor in a local clinical facility. Clinical dates and times may vary from your regularly scheduled class days.

Health Screen Documentation required for Clinical experience (additional information provided in class):
  • TB Skin Test*: 2-Step TB skin test within the last 12 months.
  • Influenza Vaccination* or Declination: Required if your educational experience is from October 1st thru April 1st
    • *Information will be provided in class.
    • Some clinical sites may require a COVID vaccination, exemption, or declination.

Students will explore clinical site options with their instructor during class.

Attendance Requirement
  • 100% attendance is required.
Registration Includes
  • instruction, textbook, online study program, and clinical experience
  • Idaho State CNA Skills and Written Exam fees (one attempt each)
Dress Code - CNA in Bonners Ferry
  • Scrubs: Gray scrub top and bottoms (required by the third lab)
  • Shoes: Closed-toed shoes
  • Watch: An analog watch that can track seconds is strongly recommended. No smart devices are allowed during testing.

    • 3-ring binder
    • notebook for taking notes
Additional Information
  • Pre-employment Screenings: Many employers perform pre-employment screenings such as criminal history, drug screen, driving record, and credit checks. A preliminary criminal history check is conducted by the school, and some offenses may disqualify you from class enrollment. Verify your employability in your preferred occupation.
  • Registration:
    • It is best to register at least one week before class begins.
    • Seats are limited.
