Class Information

Prepare to become a vital part of the emergency medical services (EMS) system with this comprehensive training program. Learn to provide pre-hospital emergency care and transportation for patients in both routine and life-threatening situations. Develop the essential knowledge and skills to stabilize and safely transport individuals in need.

As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you will serve as a crucial link between the scene of an emergency and the healthcare system, working as part of a coordinated EMS response. Under medical oversight, EMTs perform critical interventions using the basic equipment commonly found in an ambulance.

Registration opens October 20, 2025, and the class regularly fills within hours.

Prerequisites

You will receive a complete orientation on the first day of class, but in the meantime, there are a few prerequisites that need to be prepared for prior to the first day.

  1. National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians: Please become familiar with the requirements for placement in the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Your instructor will also be available to answer questions about the certification process. Visit www.nremt.org/rwd/public/document/emt
  2. FEMA Classes: Please complete the 3 FEMA classes listed below before the first day of class. (Access may be limited. Please try back at a future date, if you are unable to access these federal government-managed FEMA classes at this time.)
    • Go to https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid/register to register for a FEMA Student Identification (SID) Number.
    • Once you have been assigned a FEMA SID number, navigate to training.fema.gov/nims.
      • Find your course and click on it to study.
      • Take the final exam, and within one business day, you will receive an email response with your score and a link to print your certificate.

    • ICS 700 FEMA - Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Course | IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

  3. Immunizations: The immunizations below will be required for your internship. Please bring documentation to class of the following immunizations:
    • TB
    • MMR
    • Hepatitis B

    • Class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and four Saturdays.

Location

In-Person: EMT is an in-person class at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, ID. Attendance is mandatory.

This program includes an internship. The internship will be discussed in class with your instructor.

    • Basic Life Support Provider certification, and the
    • skills exam for the NREMT
  • Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Technicians (NREMT) exams.
