Class Information
This is a competency-based apprenticeship for those currently employed in a dental practice who wish to become Dental Assistants. Work with an approved clinical preceptor (an experienced Dental Assistant, Hygienist, or Dentist) at your place of employment to practice skills and meet clinical proficiencies.
Enrollment Period begins May 12, 2025.
Beginning May 12, submit the requested information below to the Workforce Training Center Health Careers Department at
WTC_HealthCareers@nic.edu.
- your name and contact information (full name, email address, and phone number),
- the name of the dental clinic at which you are employed, and
- the name and contact information for a potential Clinical Preceptor at your place of employment (name, phone number, email address)
Prerequisites
- Currently employed in a dental practice with access to a Clinical preceptor.
- Unique Email Address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
- Computer and Internet Access: Regular access to a Windows-based computer with high-speed internet is required
- Chromebooks and cell phones are NOT compatible with the online portion of this course.
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years old or older.
Location
Hybrid Class
- Live Instruction
- Coeur d'Alene area students may attend in-person classes at the Post Falls and Coeur d'Alene campuses.
- Students outside of the Coeur d'Alene metropolitan area can attend live classes and in-class demonstrations via Zoom.
- Online Coursework
- All classwork is augmented with online class assignments, quizzes, and exams.
- On-the-Job Training
- Work with an approved clinical preceptor at your place of employment to practice skills and meet clinical proficiencies.
- Prepare to work closely with your clinical preceptor, including weekly modules, demonstrations, assignments, tests, and 160 hours of on-the-job training.
- Schedule
- You will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights and on scheduled Friday mornings.
- The schedule is tentative and is subject to change due to the nature of the industry and the availability of program location sites.
- A finalized schedule will be issued to students at Orientation.

- 100% attendance is required to obtain the required skills necessary to safely practice and receive your certificate.
- Registration Includes
- instruction, textbook, online study program and other specialty courses, and certification exam
