Class Information

Begin or enhance your career in structural firefighting and prepare for testing and certification as an IFSAC Firefighter 1. Classroom and hands-on instruction include basic firefighting skills, fire behavior and control techniques, fire ground safety, apparatus and equipment operation and maintenance, Hazmat, fire investigation, report writing, and physical fitness.

Prerequisites

Application and Acceptance
  • Application window for the Fall 2025 Firefighter 1 Academy is June 1, 2025-June 20, 2025
    • Complete and Submit a brief application with a short essay.
      • All completed applications will be reviewed, and
      • You will be notified of your acceptance status after the application period has closed.
Medical Clearance
Ability to Participate
  • Ability to actively participate in rigorous and physically challenging training and use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)

Schedule

The schedule below is tentative and is subject to change due to the nature of the industry. A finalized schedule will be issued to students on the first night of class.
  • Class meets on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Location

In-Person Course:
  • Class meets at the Coeur d'Alene Fire Station 2 on Tuesday and Thursday nights for in-classroom instruction and on Saturdays for hands-on skills instruction.

Class Notes

Registration Includes:
  • textbooks,
  • use of turnout gear, and
  • training equipment.
Appropriate Clothing
  • 100% cotton-navy pants,
  • black military style boots,
  • black leather belt
Additional Costs
  • $50 IFSAC testing fee for Fire Fighter 1 Certification Exam
