Class Information
The first year of the Construction Apprenticeship covers a wide variety of content such as safety, blueprint reading, building materials, tools, wall systems, framing, stair layout, roofing, exterior finishing, drywall, cabinet installation, and more. The Construction Apprenticeship is a four-year program that requires 160 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) annually and 6,000-8,000 hours of on-the-job learning.
Prerequisites
- Unique Email Address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
- Computer and Internet Access: Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet capabilities is required.
- Age Requirement: Must be 16 years old or older
- 16 and 17-year-old apprentices are required to enter a STRAP agreement with parental approval and signature.
- CORE Pre-Apprenticeship Construction is taken simultaneously with Construction Apprenticeship Year 1.
- It is a requirement to pass both CORE Pre-Apprenticeship and Construction Apprenticeship Year 1 before moving to Year 2.
Location
Hybrid Course
- In-person: You'll meet in person as scheduled at the North Idaho College Parker Technical Education Center in Rathdrum, ID for instruction, labs, and exams.
- Online: Additional coursework is completed online in the Canvas classroom.

Attendance Requirement
- 100% attendance is mandatory.
Dress Code
- Required attire: long-sleeved shirts, durable, long pants, work boots, and outerwear suited to the weather (snow, rain, or shine).

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- PPE provided: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility vest, and work gloves.
- If you prefer to use your own equipment, have it inspected by the instructor before use.
Class Preparation
- Bring: notepad, writing utensils, lunch (1-hour lunch break), water bottle, and snacks.
- A break room with refrigerator/freezer and microwave is available, along with vending machines.
Parking
- A parking permit is required and will be provided in class.
- Arrive 15 minutes early for the first class to receive your permit.
