Class Information CDL Hazmat Endorsement Theory Training
CDL Hazmat Theory Training provides learners who have not previously held an "H" endorsement with the federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) theory training required to earn a hazardous materials commercial driver license endorsement.
This self-paced online course prepares you to meet FMCSA training requirements prior to completing state written testing for the Hazmat endorsement.

Prerequisites
- License Requirement: You must hold a valid Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to which NIC can attach your completed training record in the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
- Email Address Requirement: You must provide a unique email address during registration and be able to regularly access it. The email address you use must not be used by another student.

Schedule
- Time Commitment: You should expect to spend approximately 8 to 16 hours completing the course.
- Course Access Period: Once registered, you have 30 days to complete the training.
Class Notes
- ELDT Compliance: This course meets the federal ELDT theory training requirement for the Hazardous Materials endorsement.
- Skills Training: Hazmat endorsement training does not require behind-the-wheel skills training.
- TSA Background Check: Earning the "H" endorsement requires a TSA background check, which cannot be completed until you hold a valid CDL.
- State Testing: After completing the TSA background check, you must schedule and pass the written Hazmat test with the state of Idaho. If you are out of state, contact your local Department of Licensing for additional requirements.
- Additional Costs: Course tuition does not include TSA background check fees or state licensing fees.
