Class InformationDriver’s Education
This comprehensive Driver’s Education course equips new drivers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become safe, responsible operators of motor vehicles. The program combines online classroom instruction with behind-the-wheel training and meets or exceeds Idaho state requirements for teen driver education.
Through structured lessons, students learn vehicle operation fundamentals, traffic laws, defensive driving strategies, and sound decision-making. Instruction emphasizes hazard recognition, situational awareness, and building lifelong safe driving habits.
Course Components

- Approximately 1 hour
- Parent or guardian must attend if the student is under 18
- Skills training
- In-car observation for 6 hours
- Behind-the-wheel driving for 6 hours
Schedule and Time Commitments
- Orientation begins at 5:00 pm on the Wednesday of the week your class begins.
- Skills training sessions are scheduled for a maximum of two hours per day. Sessions are offered Monday through Friday in two time blocks, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. You will select your specific training times with your instructor during Orientation.
Eligibility
- Students must be at least 14.5 on or before the first day of class. Students under 15 must call to register.
- A valid driving permit is required by the first day of class.
Permit Requirements
- Certified original birth certificate (available from the Bureau of Vital Statistics)
- Acceptable photo identification
- Social Security card or number for verification
- Proof of Idaho residency
- Liability signer if under 18, must be a birth parent or court-ordered guardian
- Verification of School Compliance (VOC) if under 18
- Acceptable Lawful Presence documents if applicable
After You Finish
- Drivers under 17 must complete 50 additional supervised driving hours with an adult, including 10 night hours.
- State written and skills tests are required
Instruction is provided by certified driving instructors using a curriculum aligned with the Idaho Driver’s Handbook and the state’s Graduated Driver Licensing requirements. Successful completion qualifies students for a Supervised Instruction Permit (SIP) and prepares them for the next steps toward full licensure.
