Class Information

Enter the field of phlebotomy with this comprehensive 130-hour program, designed to prepare professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis. Engage in classroom and lab work sessions covering terminology, anatomy, physiology, and blood collection procedures. Through hands-on specimen practice and expert guidance, perfect the techniques of puncture methods. Students will graduate with 65 successful venipunctures.

Prerequisites

  • Age Requirement: You must be 18 years old or older
  • Unique Email Address: Each student must have a unique email address for registration.
  • Computer and Internet Access: Regular access to a computer with high-speed internet is required.
  • High School Completion or GED: High School Completion or GED is required for NHA Certification
    • Homeschool students must provide a signed certification of completion issued by a parent or guardian. Printable templates are available at responsiblehomeschooling.org.

Location

Hybrid Course: You will meet in person two to three times a week at the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center in Post Falls, ID, to work with an instructor and practice hands-on skills. The theory component is completed online in the Canvas classroom.

Schedule

Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as scheduled Saturdays.

  • Appropriate Attire
    • First day: Scrubs or comfortable, smart-casual wear.
    • Required by week four: Gray scrubs (no specific shade required)
      • You can purchase your scrubs anywhere (e.g., Amazon, Walmart) as long as they are gray
 
  • Venipuncture Practice
    • Practice on students will be expected, however, don't worry; there will be plenty of simulation practice prior. Additional details will be discussed in class.
      • Please be prepared to perform blood draws on other students and yourself.
      • You will be expected to bring adult volunteers to class to practice blood draws on scheduled days.
 
  • Coursework and Lab
    • You will complete coursework outside of class and meet in the lab to explore material in-depth, apply real-world scenarios, engage in critical thinking activities, and practice competency skills.
      • Plan 4 hours per week to complete outside coursework.
  • Registration
    • It is best to register at least one week before class begins.
    • Seats are limited.
